The Pilot Episode

Source
Monday, 15 September 2008

Around 12 minutes delay to the target start of 9:15 pm is very much forgiveable especially to those anticipating the much awaited premiere. GMA 7 already unveiled the official website as well as the show starts.

Quick Account:

Chopper Shots

Paolo Bediones gallantly gives a birds - eye tour of Koh Tarutao Islands - brief history and classic shots of dangerous animals and wildlife, except of course for the Butanding or whale shark :)

The First Challenge

The 18 Castaways are told that they are going to an island for an interview. They have no idea that the 39 days have already started. They are not allowed to speak or talk to one another. They have nothing but the clothes their wearing when Paolo instructs them to jump off the boat and swim towards the shore

Noticeably, Paolo narrates his observations or assumptions on each of the castaways while they are swimming. The hunky Rob, ironically could hardly swim and clings on to a poor girl. Kiko shows a "messiah complex" for escorting the girls. While another guy, Emerson, cries for help for cramps... the black belter, right? Marlon, the waiter - cook, bargains for a lifesaver.

The VTR introductions started with Jace who incidentally finishes the race first. Zita, the laundrywoman with 7 kids and 12 grandkids finishes at second place. Jace or his group gets the bigger camp. Read more...

What would you do when there’s P3-million at stake?

Walden Sadiri

For the 18 castaways chosen by GMA Network to be part of the first "Survivor Philippines," their answer would be to fight it out to win the P3-million prize.

And the first Pinoy Sole Survivor at the end of the 39-day battle for survival at Koh Tarutao or Devil’s Island in Thailand would be the lucky one to pocket all that millions!

The castaways began their battle a few months ago as part of the more than 43,000 aspirants all over the country who auditioned. They survived the initial audition as the number was slimmed down to 400, then it was trimmed down to 120. Then it was brought down to 60, then down to 32, until they made the cut to be the 18 castaways. But to make it through the grueling battery of interviews wasn’t a guarantee to win the P3- million cash prize. It was everybody’s ball game in the end at the Devil’s Island, and whoever outwits, outplays, or outsmarts everybody would be proclaimed the winner!

So who are the 18 castaways vying for the P3-million cash prize?   Read more....

Paolo Bediones talks about the 18 castaways in Survivor Philippines

My own version of Survivor Philippines Theme....

Source

You can never think of anyone else who fits the hosting job of Survivor Philippines other than Paolo Bediones. The man is born to host the local version of the hit reality series Survivor, which has been franchised by close to 50 countries.

And Paolo is taking his job very seriously. Aside from testing for himself the grueling challenges, Paolo knows each and every castaway—all 18 of them—in the first-ever Survivor Philippines.

"All of the castaways went to the auditions, all of them have a number, none of them were favored. They were chosen among 40,000, brought down to 400, down to 120, down to 60, down to 32, down to 16, and then 18.

"Each and every one, puwede naming sabihin kung saan nag-audition ‘yan. Ako, dun ako proud na isa-isahin mo lahat ng castaways, kunin mo ang back story ng lahat ng mga ‘yan, where they auditioned, where they come from, I assure you, matutuwa kayo. We really gave a chance to all sectors of society, to all working classes... Nakakatuwa talaga," says Paolo to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the press launch of Survivor Philippines last Wednesday afternoon, September 10, at the GMA Network Center.

The select members of the entertainment press, including, PEP, had the privilege of watching the rough cut of the first few gaps of Survivor Philippines that will be aired on September 15 in GMA-7. It was the first time that the press people were able to see the 18 castaways who will compete for the cash prize of three-million pesos and the title of the first-ever Pinoy Sole Survivor.

"We have a couple of favorites... We call them favorites kasi parang ang dating is all 18 have distinct personalities, e. So we have a favorite way of calling them rather. Ang importante sa castaway nung audition, dapat unang tingin ko pa lang sa kanya—pagkatapos ng interview and getting to know him more—may personality," Paolo points out.    Read more....

Meet the 18 castaways of Survivor Philippines

gmanews.tv

GMA-7 has finally revealed the identities of the 18 castaways (originally 16) that will compete for the three million pesos cash prize—tax free—in the first-ever Survivor Philippines, hosted by Paolo Bediones.

The 18 castaways, nine males and nine females, were chosen out of more than 43,000 Survivor fans and aspiring castaways who auditioned nationwide.

These people from diverse backgrounds—including a lingerie model, a labandera, a yaya, a waiter, a call center agent, a driver, a basketball player—were flown to Koh Tarutao island, also known as the Devil's Island, in Thailand to embark on their biggest challenge yet.

The 18 castaways stayed in the Devil's Island for more than 39 days.

Meet the 18 castaways of Survivor Philippines:

Kristina "Kaye" Alipio, lingerie model

Leona Rica "Nikki" Dacullo, call center agent

Jervy "Patani" Daño, 20, babysitter

Veronica "Vern" Domingo, 29, taekwondo coach

Vevherly Gador, 20, student

Chevyline "Chev" Macias, 26 years old, former GRO

Zita Ortiga, 46, laundrywoman

Maria Nona "Niña" Ortiz, designer/wellness coach

Anna Charisse Yacapin, 26, product officer

Marlon Carmen, 30, waiter

Crisanto "Cris" Cartagenas, company driver

Emerson Dino, 31, technician

John Anthony Lopez, 27, auto mechanic/model

Raymund Francis "Kiko" Rustia, model

Cesar "Gigit" Sulit, 48, web designer/mountaineer

Robert Vincent "Rob" Sy, sales officer

John Carlo "JC" Tiuseco, 23, basketball player

Reynaldo "Jace" Chanco Flores, Jr., Hunky Martial Arts/Gym Instructor

The 18 castways were initially divided into two groups: Naak and Jarakay, which means snake and crocodile, respectively, in Thai language. Every three days, they will battle for reward and immunity. On the third day, one will be eliminated until only two or three castaways are left. From them the Jury, composed of voted-out castaways, will determine who will win the three million pesos cash prize and the title of the first Pinoy Sole Survivor.

Survivor Philippines will be aired nightly on GMA-7 after Ako Si Kim Samsoon starting September 15.

A guide to Survivor Philippines

SURVIVOR Philippines brings together 18 strangers from all over the country and divides them into two tribes.

Tribe Jarakay (which is the Thai word for crocodile) carries the blue color while Tribe Naak (which is the Thai word for snake) carries the red color.

Paolo Bediones will host the reality show (a task undertaken by Jeff Probst in the original show).

For identification, each castaway has to wear a buff, which is an elastic material with the logo and color of their tribe. Armed only with one machete for each tribe, the 18 castaways have to live in the island for 39 days.

Every day they will receive a tree-mail that will provide riddles, clues or instructions about the challenges for the day. Each challenge is designed to test the castaways’ strength, endurance, problem solving skills and teamwork.

Winning a reward means getting basic necessities or luxuries that are both rare in the island, like pillows for a more comfortable sleep or enjoying a full course meal to make up for days without food.

But more than a reward, if there’s one thing all castaways would fight for, it’s winning immunity. Immunity means having protection from eviction. Without immunity, one can only hope for the best when it’s time for the most nerve-wracking moment in Survivor: the Tribal Council.

This is where each castaway’s fate is decided. It doesn’t matter if you’re the strongest or the smartest in the tribe because it all boils down to two things: the motives and strategies of each castaway.

The tricky part: the last few castaways voted out of the Tribal Council are the ones who will compose the Jury.

When the castaways are down to the final two, it is the Jury who will vote for the winner.

Expect a mixture of action, drama, suspense, romance and comedy as each castaway tries to outwit, out play, out last to claim the P3 million grand prize and the distinct honor of being the first ever Pinoy Sole Survivor.

The ultimate challenge begins on Sept. 15 on GMA Network.

Spoiling the Spoilers!

Some say Survivor Philippines is gonna be shown a little later than expected.. on September, that is. We'd like to believe that GMA 7 is really doing a good job trying to keep everything hush, hush. But thanks to some of you who posted their comments; there are pretty good spoilers spilled. It's up to us to believe them or not .. and we'll probably see the truth on September.

If anyone out there is daring and "creative" enough to add more spoilers... don't be shy to post them here!

Thanks to Totoo Ito for the following scoop:

Among the 16 castaways are:

TRINIDAD "TERRY" REID (Amazing Race Asia 2; from Cavite)
ROBERT SY (auditionee from SM Manila, May 23 auditions)

http://www.thelonerider.com - probably made it (unless, GMA 7 found out about his site and decided to disqualify him)

CASTAWAY - didn't make it to the top 16, right? Is it because you've been releasing spoilers?

Is Castaway Sean M. and is Charl, Roy A?

The sensational JUAN DELA CRUZ? Are you for real?

Toni Gonzaga look-alike? hmmm..

Thanks to CASTAWAY for these good info:

The 16 castaways will follow a 3-day cycle throughout the 39 days.

Game rules

Although this is a reality show, rules still apply. This are the rules for every survivor show:

* Conspiring to split winnings will result in immediate expulsion from the game.
* Except for the occasional challenges which involve wrestling or limited combat, any physical violence between players will result in immediate expulsion from the game.
* At Tribal Council, players are not permitted to vote for themselves, nor can they spoil their ballots or decline to cast a vote. Players must also show who they voted for to the camera inside the voting booth.
* Contestants must abide by U.S. law as well as local law. Breaking any of these laws will result in immediate removal from the game.
* Contestants may not skip any tribal councils, nor can they refuse to participate in an immunity or reward challenge, unless the game offers them the opportunity to do so.
* Tribe members may not raid or visit the campsite of another tribe unless they are doing so as part of an immunity challenge, reward challenge or tribal merger activity with the other tribe. They also cannot visit the TV crew compound. Exceptions to this rule have been made, as a result of accident or challenge victories.
* If a contestant becomes seriously injured or sick, the player, fellow contestants, the host, or even the crew filming the players may call in a medical team for help. In some cases, the player can be treated at their camp, but the player may also be deemed unable to participate further by the medical team and is then taken from camp to a medical facility, and removed from the game.
* Depending on which country the show takes place in, contestants may be barred from killing certain forms of plant or animal life.

Most of us enjoy watching the show and doesn't care what are the rules since we are more focus on the immunity challenge, immunity rewards, sexy and handsome castaways. Well, Charlie Parsons laid a very nice format in this show which will be experienced and hopefully enjoyed by the selected (very lucky) castaways. Hopefully the show will bring some very Pinoy style(hopefully unique), maybe the name of the tribe. but of course, even they won't bring-in pinoy style on show, we cannot demand GMA to do so since the format of the show is isolating the participants into a remote island, which in reality, if ever a person will be isolated in an island by an event, he's not sure if it's in the Philippines.

Hmmmm, Is Paolo Bediones will use the show's famous line: "Survivors ready?...GO!"? we'll see...

Raise the plug!

At last, a better survivor Philippines has been created! This plug shows ordinary filipino people who are survivors in their own ways. In fact many of us are really survivors if you'll think of what is really happening now in our country. Hopefully one of this days, a sole survivor will arise and make a real change in this beautiful country.

Anyway, I still don't have any idea when will be the premiere of this most awaited tv show in kapuso network. And based on the number of people who came to audition, this show will again prove that filipinos are really survivors!

The survivor host... Paolo Bediones

As every kapuso know, Paolo Bediones is one of Philippines most premiere reality show host. His tv show hosting expertise will be again put into test and probably most of kapuso (and hopefully kapamilyas) will be amazed by his hosting style.

With twelve years of hosting experience under his belt, Paolo has done everything from news magazine, game show, quiz show, travel show, to showbiz talk show. But this time, Paolo takes on a bigger challenge. Survivor Philippines, coming from the international Survivor franchise, can only be grander than anything previously seen on local TV.

Being a self-confessed Survivor fanatic, things couldn’t be more exciting for Paolo, who is already prepping for his new show. Revisiting old Survivor episodes and learning the show’s production bible by heart are only some of the things keeping Paolo busy these days. The active and adventurous host is undergoing physical training to be his fittest for Survivor Philippines, where he takes viewers on an amazing journey to the great outdoors. Paolo is all set to take sixteen castaways to a remote island for a 39-day challenge designed to test their brains and brawn.
